The main objective of this review paper is to present a comprehensive literature review starting from conventional irrigation system technology to the latest trends of solar power based automatic irrigation system available commercially and available in research stage.
The variation of spatial and temporal distribution of available water for irrigation makes significant demand on water conservation techniques, this can be done by automation in irrigation by using solar energy which is free and able to help in reducing waste of water and time, both for farmers. Typical irrigation systems consume great amount of conventional energy through the use of electric motors and pumps powered by diesel. This calls for focused attention to promote improved water management practices in irrigation projects suffering from operational deficiencies and integrated water resources development and management approach. Over 58 % of the rural households depend on agriculture as their principal means of livelihood and irrigation technologies are going to be point of focus in future developments.Irrigation is the procedure through which farming efficiency can be increased when deficiency of rain is there. However, most of the food production increase must have come from yield increases 2.Īccording to 3, the adoption of irrigated agriculture makes it possible to increase productivity and diversify agricultural crops.Abstract: Agriculture plays a vital role in India’s economy. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) predicts that global demand for food by the year 2050 will increase by at least 60 above 2006 levels, and in order to meet this demand it would need to double or triple agricultural production. In particular, irrigated farming is one of the sectors that consume more water per day, and can reach 90,000 litershectare, while the average consumption per capita in Brazil is 162 liters per day 1. Global population growth, climate change and demand from several economic sectors such as industry and agriculture put into question the availability of drinking water to all living beings on planet. However, it is a limited resource, currently at risk of extinction. Introduction Availability of water is one of the basic conditions for life on planet Earth. The developed fuzzy system for pivot control is original and innovative. Results indicate that data from the edaphoclimatic variables, when well fitted to the fuzzy logic, can solve uncertainties and non-linearities of an irrigation system and establish a control model for high-precision irrigation.īecause remote sensing provides quick measurements and easy access to crop information for large irrigation areas, images will be used as inputs. Intelligent fuzzy inference system based on precision irrigation knowledge, i.e., a system capable of creating prescriptive maps to control the rotation speed of the central pivot.īased on the VRI-prescribed map created by the intelligent system of decision-making, the pivot can increase or decrease its speed, reaching the desired depth of application in a certain irrigation zone.

Publishing on IntechOpen allows authors to earn citations and find new collaborators, meaning more people see your work not only from your own field of study, but from other related fields too. Our authors and editors We are a community of more than 103,000 authors and editors from 3,291 institutions spanning 160 countries, including Nobel Prize winners and some of the worlds most-cited researchers. How By making research easy to access, and puts the academic needs of the researchers before the business interests of publishers. As PhD students, we found it difficult to access the research we needed, so we decided to create a new Open Access publisher that levels the playing field for scientists across the world.
